Time to get this blog up and running. We ate at our house tonight, after many communal meals with Divya and Michael and their kids. Their housekeeper is a good cook, and Divya has given her a lot of Indian and Thai recipes to prepare. This afternoon, though, we bought a fresh, whole, 6lb tuna from a roadside stand across the street from the ocean--it was still supple on the ice and a fantastic deep and shiny blue. $1.50/lb--one of the few items available cheaper on Saipan than Albuquerque. Some places carry fresh fish for $1/lb.

We came right home and Eli butchered it, if you call it that with a fish. He did a masterful job. Carsten and Eeshani were fascinated by the fishiness of the fish--that only a few hours ago it had been swimming in the ocean and now was laid out on the counter looking at them with a not yet entirely blank stare. The gutting of the fish was an anatomy lesson of sorts. The kids weren't too grossed out to eat it.

Since our grill has not yet arrived, we broiled it in a little soy sauce, olive oil, and a green lemon from our tree. Medium rare. It was good. We had rice and badly freezer burned peas on the side. Cheers!
